Sydney & Cutler

Sydney and Cutler met in 2018 while hiking a dormant volcano. The adventure tour went wrong when suddenly the volcano began to erupt. They quickly rappelled down the side of the mountain, narrowly escaping the lava. It was quite the meet-cute to survive a near death experience, so naturally, they had to get married.
Just kidding. They met through friends.
THE REAL ADVENTURE
Sydney & Cutler’s story started in 2018 at an Election Night party in Houston when their mutual friend ‘strongly encouraged’ them to meet. (Shoutout to Tara!) Sydney was moving to DC the next week and Cutler had just moved to Houston, so they stayed long distance friends until 2020 when the pandemic diverted Cutler from a life in New York to relocate to the DC area as well. It was not long until Cutler invited Sydney out on a date, and the rest is history.
Since then they’ve been on many adventures together — from Greece to Hawaii, and everything in between! Together they enjoy traveling to new places, salsa dancing, photography, visiting friends, getting active, or curling up for a movie night at home. No matter the place or the activity, they are happiest when they’re with each other.

Sydney left work one afternoon thinking she was taking Christmas photos for her boss’s family. Instead, Cutler was there waiting in front of the Capitol, where he got down on one knee and asked Sydney to marry him. She was so excited that she forgot to say yes. (Eventually Sydney remembered…) Afterwards Cutler led her to a surprise party with all of her friends & coworkers waiting at the Capitol. They popped champagne and celebrated over delicious macaroons (thanks Alyssa!). The next day they hopped on a flight to Seattle, where another surprise was waiting. Sydney & Cutler’s family had flown to Cutler’s family summer house to finally meet, celebrate, and begin wedding planning!
